English for Career Development by Mareta Fauziah (Week 3)

Overview of Week 3 Materials.

A job seeker needs to understand how to write clearly and concisely, connect one’s skills to the job description, and follow standard format guidelines. In this third week, I learn it all how to develop these skills, become familiar with the structures and format of cover letters and standard business letters.

Cover letter is the third part of the application process. 3 reasons for a cover letter are as follows,

  1. A written letter shows the applicant's personal style.
  2. Explains the applicant's qualifications for the job.
  3. Formally asks for an interviewe.
These are the important parts of a cover letter:

  1. Heading and GreetingList our name, address, phone number, email address and other ways to reach us. Also, write the date and the name of the person who will be reading our letter. Use that person's title and address.
  2. Opening and Introduction. An introduction tells someone about ourself. Explain who we are and our reason for writing.
  3. Body. When applying for a particular job, use the job description as a guide. We can find the job description in the job listing. This tells us what the job is and what skills are required.
  4. Closing. Ask for a chance to interview in person. An interview is a face-to-face meeting during which we and the boss can learn more each other.

Result of Week 3 Quiz.

So, that’s all what I learn in the third week. Thank you ^^
